Why does everyone go all out on their costumes at our theme party?  Because the stakes are yuge (huge)! Shipsomnia will choose 1 male and 1 female with the best costumes to be crowned the King and Queen of the Shipsomnia Ball and they will win a FREE double occupancy Balcony Class cabin each for them and a friend for the next chapter of Shipsomnia!  So start prepping now!

The 3 criteria for the costume contest are as follows:

1. Creativity and originality (making your own costume is best!)
2. Attention to detail (it’s the little touches that count)
3. Theme and integration (how well can you capture the theme and the Shipsomnia spirit with your outfit?)

Our two winners last year and Queen and King of the Ball were Marti Milner and Karan Saluja for their amazing hand-made costumes. Marti comes from South Africa and came to the Ball as a ‘Shipsomnia Siren’ in a gorgeous cream two-piece that took her 4 months to make and was studded with 400 Swarovski crystals. Her neck-piece was really the winning touch to her outfit, complete with star fishes and octopuses and a broken clock to symbolise ‘Shipsomnia’!

Karan hails from Bangkok and also won over the judges with his Ursula in drag outfit complete with spectacular facial makeup, purple tentacles and light-up rave shoes, perfectly fitting to our ocean theme with that original twist! This year Karan is joining us again for his honeymoon and we’re really excited to be celebrating on board with him and his lovely wife Suwanee – big congratulations to the happy couple!

Step 1: register

• This year we’ll have a photo booth to register for the costume contest.
• All you need to do is register at the booth and take a photo.
• The registration booth will be open from 6pm to 9:30pm.

Step 2: party!

• After registering, get your booty on the dance floor!
• Top costumes will be given a token and will need to return to the booth by 9:45pm for judging.

Step 3: the judging

• We will assemble a panel of 3-5 judges
• Voting takes place from 10pm to 10:45pm
• Each judge will award each costume up to 15 points. A scale of 1-5 points will be awarded for each of the 3 criteria.
• Scores will be added together and the costume with the most points wins.
• In the case of a tie the Shipsomnia founders, Alessandra and Jay, will choose the winner.
• Winners will be announced on stage at 11pm between DJ sets.
