Happy New Year to all the Shipsomniacs out there and wishing everyone a great start to 2017, the year of the ‘Tale of the Kraken’! This year we’re officially launching our #LiveTheJourney blog, featuring unique articles, interviews and insights into all aspects of the Shipsomnia lifestyle. For the Shipsomnia team,‘living the journey’ is about living life to the fullest, feeding your passions and chasing your dreams. So whatever floats your boat, be it music, food, fashion, travel, fitness, art, culture, networking or business, #LiveTheJourney will have something to inspire and excite you.
There can be no better way to kick start the LTJ blog than by introducing you to Alessandra Maderni, Co-Founder and CEO of Shipsomnia. A driven entrepreneur and one half of the creative pair who forged their vision into a reality, her passion for business and talent in the travel and entertainment industry combined with her cross-continental background has helped to shape Shipsomnia into the truly global experience that it is today. Although born and raised in Rome, Italy, Alessandra’s Thai mother has meant she has always kept strong ties to Asia. The first voyage of Shipsomnia set sail in Asian waters from Singapore to Phuket, before moving to European seas for the next edition. Alessandra is living her own journey and hopes her story will also encourage other Shipsomniacs to harness their own talents and dare to dream big.
Alessandra, how would you describe Shipsomnia in one short sentence?
“An immersive music and arts vacation experience.”
How did you come to create Shipsomnia? What was the inspiration for your concept?
“Shipsomnia is a concept that my business partner [Jay Slangen] and I developed together from years of experience working in the travel and entertainment industries. We wanted to create something that was unique and that sparked people’s imaginations through our story telling, drawn from original mythical legends of the seas. Our inspiration also comes from some of the best fantasy movies out there such as Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean and even Spider Man, to name just a few!”
What is it like to be a woman working in the entertainment industry?
“I think this particular field is certainly a space that is mainly dominated by men, but personally I choose to view it as an advantage. A highly analytical mind and the meticulous eye of a woman adds a special touch, and a certain level of attention to detail helps set you apart.”
What’s the most exciting part of your job?
“The most exciting part of my job is being able to work with so many different talented people in various creative/artistic fields from all over the world, all of whom are passionate about the platform that we created and are excited to help push the vision to the next level. There is nothing better than feeding off positive energy from talented individuals that believe in your mission.”
How do you curate your musical line up and talent?
“Commercial mainstream artists and talent don’t always necessarily equal quality, and so we aim to showcase more and more unbelievable up-and-coming talent out there on Shipsomnia. After experiencing a journey with us, we want people to leave with the feeling that we expanded their horizon, both visually, musically and culturally.”
How is this year’s chapter of Shipsomnia going to be different from last year?
“It’s like watching two movies that are completely different. Everything from the story, to the production, the route, the cruise ship, the artists, the talent and more will be completely fresh. Lots of Shipsomniacs from last year are super pumped to join us again on this new journey!”
Any news of what’s to come after the ‘Tale of the Kraken’ that you can share with us?
“I can’t reveal specifics prior to our official release, but all I can say is that 2017 will be one hell of an exciting year for the Shipsomnia team. We are partnering with some really cool brands that will help bring some of our big ideas to life. There is a lot planned and news will start to roll out from the first quarter of the year onwards. Stay tuned!”
And finally, what does ‘Live The Journey’ mean to you?
“’Live the Journey’ is our core message for the brand and one that is dear to my heart. Through my own perseverance and tenacity, I’ve been fortunate enough to ‘live the journey’ the way I envisioned it, and it would be an honor for me to be able to play a small narrative in empowering and inspiring others to do the same.”
