Our core message, #LiveTheJourney, celebrates the journey of life and encourages everyone to never stop dreaming, learning and exploring. We’re part of an exciting generation where for the first time information has no boundaries and no place, person or goal is out of reach. Our mission is to inspire and empower millennials to live the life they want to live and embrace every step along the way. Through interviews, clips and stories on topics including travel, work, fitness, food, music, style and art we’re highlighting many aspects of how Shipsomnia lives its journey and hope to play a little part in encouraging others to start living their journey today.
Fitness Resolutions, some extra motivation for you this year.
New Years has come and gone and 2017 is finally here, but now the real countdown begins… And we just don’t mean the countdown for Tale of the Kraken, but it’s also the countdown for all Shipsomniacs to whip themselves into shape and try to get that beach bod ready for our epic vacation through the Mediterranean! We’re not trying to be vain here, but let’s be honest, when you look good you feel good and we do like to promote a healthy lifestyle in between parties and hopefully Shipsomnia is that thing that gives you extra motivation to stick to your New Year’s fitness resolution. And if that’s still not enough motivation for you just think that being in shape will help you get through the marathon days and nights of dancing on board the ship and let you party for much longer! This isn’t called “Shipsomnia” for nothing. Now are we speaking your language?Yes?! Okay, so let’s get to it!
The power of science
New studies shows it takes 66 days to form a habit. Now that seems like quite a long time to get into your workout groove especially as we know from our personal experience that you can fall back into your bad habits in just 2 weeks. So do your best during the first two months to stick with the routine and hopefully afterwards it gets a little bit easier. Remember the math: cheat-eating day + rest day does not equal ‘chest day’, no matter how much you wish it did.
Next bit of science are your friends, endorphins which can help you get through those first 66 days. When you exercise, your body releases chemicals to the brain called endorphins that help reduce your perception of pain but also trigger off some positive feelings in your body similar to morphine. And the best way to flood your brain with a nice dose of endorphins is to get your heart rate up, break a sweat and move your body! Now put on your favorite mix and you’ve got yourself a nice party on the treadmill.
Fitsomniacs, from walrus to ravey seal.
At Shipsomnia we practice what we preach, so we’ve created the official Fitsomniacs Facebook Group. Think of the group as a fun support group for all of us to live our fitness journey together, no matter your shape or size. The group has both men and women of all fitness levels who post anything from funny fitness memes, current workout routines, fitness tips and even their progress.
Ain’t no room for haters on our page! So whatever you’re looking to achieve we’re here to listen, we’re here to advise, we’re here to share your successes and we’re here to commiserate your failures too.

Take the ‘Beats n Burn’ Challenge
Each year we’ll be running our original ‘Beats n Burn Fitness Challenge’ in the Fitsomniacs group where everyone can get involved. All you need to do is video yourself for one minute doing any equipment-free work out and play one minute of your favourite tunes. Afterwards simply nominate three others in the group who’ll have to post their Beats n Burn video. It’s not only a great way for the group to bond and learn about other members but also a cool way to discover some new music you may not have known before. Join the Fitsomniacs page and check out some of the cool videos.
Fitness wisdom from the Shipsomnia team – three quick tips for your fitness journey
Tip #1: Grab yourself some new threads:
You heard us! Go shopping and invest in a few new pieces of clothing that will make you feel fresh and ready for battle. Ok, so that’s not really a fitness tip, but it’s a personal tip from us. Getting a new outfit is one of the best ways to start your transformation. When you look good, you’ll feel good and it will also help motivate you actually put those new clothes to good use.
Tip #2: Keep fit while travelling:
Keeping in shape while travelling the globe is tough, but it can be done. Here in the Shipsomnia office we’re often on the road and know the struggle all too well. One of our Fitsomniacs recommended that you invest in a set of fitness bands, so we did and they worked great! There are plenty of brands out there but we bought a set of Bodylastics(not sponsored) and found them really easy to use. We’ve been using them for mainly bicep curls and various chest exercises but they’re quite versatile and come with a book of different exercises that are easy to follow. And yes, they’re lightweight and easy to pack, so they’re great to throw in the suitcase… but it’s up to you if they just sit there or get used.
Tip #3: Use the ‘Netflix of Fitness’ for free:
Don’t have time to hit the gym? Working out at home is a great option, even if you don’t have any equipment, there’s a lot of great videos out there but we also found ourselves spending too much time scrolling through a bunch of amateur YouTube videos. Well, problem solved… Team Beachbody (not sponsored) came up with their version of Netflix but filled with all of their great fitness programmes that they offer. So if you’re looking to get Shipsomnia-bod-ready then Netflix will have to take a back seat! The best thing of all is that they offer you 30 days totally free! If you’ve never looked into Team Beachbody they’ve got tons of great shows. Our particular favourite is the “Hammer n Chisel” – great for toning and building muscle without, not too much cardio and you don’t need much equipment to give it a go. Or try out “P90X” or the “Brazilian Butt Lift”! We personally found “Insanity” to be exactly that, insane – it was way too hardcore for anyone in the Shipsomnia office but feel free to attempt it and post your feedback in the Fitsomniacs group. We’d love to hear if any of our Fitsomniacs could master it!
That’s all for now Shipsomniacs, and remember that although it seems a distant dream, the countdown to the launch of Tale Of The Kraken is much closer than you think and the time will go speeding by. Now is the ideal time to start working towards your fitness goals or that booty you’ve always dreamed of and get ready for the party of a lifetime. We’re looking forward to hearing about your journey in the Fitsomniacs group – catch you there!

“Let’s face it, staying in shape is tough work and sometimes we need others to help us through the sweat, pain and tears. But it can also be a lot of fun once done right.” – excerpt from Fitsomnia description
